WORLD WATER DAY – 2025

In December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring March 22 of every year as World Water Day. The first World Water Day was celebrated in 1993 with the theme of raising awareness about the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of water resources.
Water is a human right, but approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide live without access to safe drinking water, putting their lives and the future of entire communities in uncertain conditions. Therefore, the purpose of celebrating World Water Day is to initiate a broad discussion about protecting existing water, addressing water pollution, and planning for the future protection of water sources. It is a very unfortunate situation that the lack of clean, safe water is a symbol of poverty.
This year’s World Water Day celebration focuses on sustainable water and wastewater management, innovation, research, digitalization, and the ability to cope with future challenges.
