NWSDB Laboratory system is structured to supply four levels of operational requirements, as follows.

  •   Central Laboratory Services
  •   Regional Support Laboratories

  •   Regional Laboratories

  •   Water Treatment Plant Laboratories

Each laboratory will be under the direction of a laboratory director with technical coordination and consultation being provided by a Chief of Laboratory Services.

Central Laboratory

Central Laboratory functions as the Center for Water Quality Control. It serves as a monitor for the activities of all laboratories.
The Central Laboratory Services implements its sampling and analytical schedule as initiated by the Chief of Laboratory Services. It engages in research programs and promotes training. Also, it functions as an active laboratory in microbiological, Chemical and Physical disciplines. Acts in an advisory capacity to process control and serve as the processing center for Analytical data.

Regional Support Laboratories

This unit is responsible for water quality control in its sphere of influence. It is an active laboratory engaged in microbiological, chemical and physical disciplines and practices a planned quality assurance program. The Regional Support Laboratory implements the sampling and analytical schedule initiated by the Chief of Laboratory Services. It provides training for personnel and supports research programs initiated by the Chief of Laboratory Services. It acts in an advisory capacity to process control in its sphere of influence.

Regional Laboratories

The regional laboratory functions as a field unit with the capability of performing routine microbiological and chemical analyses. The laboratory implements its sampling and analytical schedule initiated by the Chief of Laboratory Services. It is responsible for water quality control in its sphere its sphere of influence. An active quality assurance programme will be maintained. This unit will select personnel from its area for training. A liaison will be maintained with the O.I.C. and the Regional Laboratories provides inventory for laboratory chemicals and supplies for the O.I.C.

Water Treatment Plant Laboratories

This unit provides the basic data relative to those parameters specified by upper level laboratories. The O.I.C maintains the selected sampling points throughout the scheme.
